ORDINARY GIRL

You sit there and think
Of how perfect I am
With perfect hair and perfect eyes
Perfect body and perfect speech
But you overlook the most important part
I am just an ordinary girl

It scares me to bits
This vision of me that you have
More like a mirage I would say
I am not that amazing I know
And I dread the day you know
That I
I am just an ordinary girl

I take the steps cautiously
Afraid I might fall and then you’ll notice
Just how clumsy I am
Keep looking at my face
Notice all the imperfections?
See? I am just an ordinary girl

I don’t want you to see my feet
You might look and see
My ugly shaped toe nails
See, I am not all that
Like all the rest
I am just an ordinary girl

This is not to say
Don’t treasure me today
I may be faulty in places
Make it clear to me
That you want me as I am
Just an ordinary girl

UNBEATEN

Little lady do not cry
For though he tramples on you
And hurts you
You always wipe your tears
You always come back
It ticks them the most
That again
You are- UNBEATEN

A snake bites
Its venom swimming up your blood
A few cuts and tablets
You are up soon again
You are -UNBEATEN

Life will test us
Time and time and time
Love will hurt
Over and over and over again
We always come back for more
Through it all-UNBEATEN

TRIBUTE TO THE MOTHERLAND

Africa
Bashed, bruised, beaten
Africa
Beautiful, black, better

Africa
Torn, teary, tired
Africa
Triumphant, timeless, top

Africa
A land cut and bleeding
A land weeping
A land saddened
But
A land full of hope
A land full of warmth
A land empty of judgment
A land that's is oh, so unshakeable
A land that knows no giving up

Africa
Torn by war
Ravaged by hunger
Pulled back by illiteracy
Struggling with corruption
But
Working with the power of love
For your brother and sister
Working with the power of wisdom
For our well educated family

Africa
With a people ignorant
With a people unchangeable
But
With a people beautiful
Both in and out
With a people passionate
With a people with integrity
With a people with fight
With a people with courage

Africa
Look how we trod hunger
And live through the years
Look how despite a grumbling
Despite our misfortunes
No matter how far we run from home
Africa
Has a way of claiming its own
Pulling us back
Into its loving, open, waiting arms
Into its bosom

Africa
My mother
My family
My one true love
